In a tragic turn of events on a November evening in Rochester, New York, 27-year-old Angely Solis, a female, lost her life in a violent encounter outside her home. The incident, which unfolded on November 14, 2022, stemmed from a domestic dispute that ended in a murder-suicide perpetrated by an off-duty police officer.
That evening, Angely Solis was involved in a heated argument with Tiffani Gatson, a 29-year-old off-duty officer with the Greece Police Department.
The confrontation escalated, and Solis made a distressing 911 call that captured the sounds of a physical struggle. Her sister, Deanette Solis, also received a call and could hear the argument in the background. Rushing to the scene on Costar Street, Deanette arrived to find a physical altercation between her sister and Gatson.
In a desperate attempt to de-escalate the situation, Deanette Solis placed herself between the two women. At that point, Tiffani Gatson produced a 9mm handgun, which was not her service weapon, and opened fire. Angely Solis was shot and, after falling to the ground, was shot a second time. Deanette Solis was also wounded in the chaos. Shortly after shooting both sisters, Gatson turned the gun on herself, inflicting a fatal gunshot wound to her head.
When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Angely Solis, Tiffani Gatson, and Deanette Solis all suffering from gunshot wounds. Angely Solis was pronounced dead at the scene. Gatson was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Deanette Solis was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, which were not considered life-threatening. Angely Solis was a mother to two young sons who were reportedly inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Due to the involvement of a police officer, the New York State Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation took charge of the case. The investigation included a review of dashboard camera footage, ballistics testing, and witness interviews. The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office conducted autopsies and determined that Angely Solis's cause of death was gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and the manner of death was homicide. Tiffani Gatson's death was ruled a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Ballistics testing confirmed that the bullet fragments recovered from both Solis and Gatson were fired from the handgun registered to Gatson that was found at the scene. The OSI's investigation concluded that Tiffani Gatson was solely responsible for the death of Angely Solis. As the perpetrator took her own life, no arrests were made in connection with the murder.
