On a tragic evening in Adelphi, Maryland, the life of John Realpe Montoya was cut short. The 25-year-old Hispanic male was found by officers from the Prince George's County Police Department inside a crashed vehicle in the 2200 block of Pinewood Drive. He was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident unfolded on Friday, April 23, 2021, at approximately 10:20 PM, when police initially responded to a report of a shooting.
The investigation into the
death of Mr. Realpe Montoya quickly became a homicide case. Detectives from the Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation, working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. In the course of their investigation, they identified three suspects believed to be involved in the murder. The suspects were identified as 22-year-old Joel Man-Kamuvaka, 21-year-old Laurent-Delor Angbabu, and 23-year-old Jonathan Jackson, all residents of Silver Spring.
Within days of the incident, arrest warrants were issued for all three suspects, charging them with first and second-degree murder, among other related charges. The search for the suspects came to a head on April 27, 2021, when two of the men were apprehended. Joel Man-Kamuvaka was arrested in Montgomery County by the Prince George’s County Police Fugitive Unit with the assistance of Montgomery County Police. Later that same day, Laurent-Delor Angbabu was arrested at a hotel in College Park. The third suspect, Jonathan Jackson, was taken into custody on April 28, 2021. All three men were subsequently held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. The preliminary investigation suggests that the fatal shooting occurred during a drug-related robbery.
