Karen Antoinette Lofton, 45, was a Black woman living in Prince George’s County, Maryland, when a quiet winter night turned into a nightmare on January 26, 2009. In the early hours, a desperate 911 call came from inside the Lofton home, her daughter’s voice trying to stay steady long enough to explain that she and her mother had been shot.
