On the evening of March 27, 2011, a 30-year-old man named Paul Jason Bennett was working his shift as a Domino's pizza delivery driver in Seat-pleasant, MD. At approximately 8:29 p.m., while on a delivery in the 6800 block of Seat Pleasant Drive, he was confronted by individuals who intended to rob him. In the course of the robbery, Bennett was shot. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The male victim's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence while he was earning a living.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the murder. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of three suspects. Two days after the incident, on March 29, 2011, police arrested 22-year-old Ricardo Lamar Barton of Washington, D.C., and 23-year-old Desmond Elijah Garner of Landover, Maryland. Both men were charged with first-degree murder and robbery for their alleged involvement in Bennett's death. They were subsequently held at the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro on a no-bond status.
Following the initial arrests, detectives secured an arrest warrant for a third suspect, 22-year-old Gregg Jamar Starks, III, of Temple Hills, Maryland. He faced the same charges of first-degree murder and robbery. With the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department, Starks was apprehended in Washington, D.C., and awaited extradition to face legal proceedings for his role in the fatal shooting of Paul Jason Bennett.
