In the late hours of a Sunday evening, the residents of the Hidden Creek Apartment Homes in Gaithersburg, Maryland, were disturbed by the sound of gunshots, a chilling interruption to the quiet of June 15, 2014. These sounds marked the tragic end for 39-year-old Michelle Rena Reid, a female licensed attorney working for Johns Hopkins University. The events of that night unfolded in a parking garage on Raven Avenue, stemming from what authorities would later describe as a tumultuous domestic
situation.
Montgomery County Police officers on a routine patrol near Girard Street and Allied Place heard the gunshots around 11:20 p.m. and were drawn to the parking structure. There, on the fourth floor, they discovered David Lee Reid Jr., Michelle's 38-year-old estranged husband, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. As medical personnel rushed to his aid, a search of the garage commenced. On the ground level, officers found Michelle Reid hiding between two parked cars, armed with a handgun.
