On a summer afternoon in Landover, Maryland, three-year-old Knijah Amore Bibb was visiting her cousin's home on August 10, 2014. The young girl, a resident of Northwest Washington, was inside the residence on Forest Terrace when an argument erupted outside between two men. One of these men, identified as 25-year-old Davon Antwan Wallace of Landover, had been in a dispute with a resident of the home, reportedly over clothing.
Following the initial altercation, Wallace allegedly left the scene, only to return a short time later with a firearm. He is said to have fired multiple shots into the home from the outside. Tragically, one of the bullets struck young Knijah. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to the critical gunshot wound. Authorities stated that they did not believe the three-year-old girl was the intended target of the gunfire.
In the wake of the shooting, the Prince George's County Police Department quickly identified Davon Antwan Wallace as the suspect and charged him with first-degree murder. A significant reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to his whereabouts. A funeral for Knijah was held on August 20, 2014, at a church in Northeast D.C., where hundreds gathered to mourn the loss of the young girl.
After a manhunt that lasted for over a month, Davon Antwan Wallace was taken into custody in September 2014. The arrest brought a measure of relief to the community that had been shaken by the senseless violence that claimed the life of an innocent child.
