In the late hours of a Saturday night in September 2014, the joyous atmosphere of a neighborhood block party in Baltimore was shattered by gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 29-year-old Kevin Bass Jr., a Black male, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The shooting occurred just before midnight on September 6th in the 2200 block of Cecil Avenue, not far from his own home.
Emergency services rushed Kevin to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he
was pronounced dead. Another individual, a woman, was also shot during the incident. She was able to transport herself to the emergency room for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds, which she was expected to survive. At the time, police believed both individuals were attending the block party when the shooting erupted.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Baltimore police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Kevin Bass Jr.'s death. Despite these initial pleas for assistance, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the homicide.
