On a spring evening in Baltimore, Maryland, the life of 28-year-old Jamar Martell Green was cut short by gun violence. On April 4, 2015, Green was fatally shot in the vicinity of North Pulaski Street.
The investigation into the death of the male victim soon focused on a primary suspect. In October 2015, the Baltimore Police Department publicly identified 23-year-old Derrick Jackson as the individual wanted for Jamar Green's murder. Police officials labeled Jackson as 'Public Enemy No.
1,' and described him as a member of the Black Guerrilla Family gang. At the time he was named a suspect in Green's death, authorities also indicated that Jackson was a person of interest in another homicide and a non-fatal shooting.
A grand jury indicted Jackson on two counts of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and a handgun charge in connection with Jamar Green's death. However, in a significant turn of events, the charges against Derrick Jackson for the murder of Jamar Green were dropped in September 2016. The prosecutor's office stated that 'exonerating information' had come to light, which raised questions about the identity of the perpetrator and ethically prevented them from moving forward with the case against Jackson.
While the case of Jamar Green's murder saw this unexpected development, Derrick Jackson was later involved in another serious crime. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of 23-year-old Tavon Cokley, which occurred in December 2016. Jackson was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and accessory after the fact in the Cokley case and was sentenced in December 2017.
