Authorities investigating the incident believed that Daniel Shortt was
responsible for the fire at his wife's Brunswick apartment building. Evidence of an accelerant was found at the scene, and investigators discovered gasoline cans in the trunk of his vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man, believed to be Daniel, running from the rear of the apartment building as smoke began to appear. He had picked up his wife from a convenience store about an hour before the fire.
