In the quiet morning hours of October 28, 2017, the West Laverne Drive neighborhood in New Orleans was irrevocably altered by an act of violence that claimed the life of Gregory Hilliard, a 49-year-old African American man. At approximately 9:11 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the air, prompting calls to the New Orleans Police Department. Responding officers from the Seventh District discovered Hilliard inside a white vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
