On the night of February 3, 2017, a male named Lawrence Lee Jones, who was 25 years old, was fatally shot in the Park Heights area of Baltimore, Maryland. Police responded to a call for a shooting in the 2600 block of Ulman Avenue and Park Heights Avenue where they discovered Jones unresponsive on the ground. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of his death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators recovered surveillance video from the area that captured the shooting. At the crime scene, authorities found several items, including sixteen nine-millimeter shell casings and three bullet fragments. The investigation led police to identify a suspect in the homicide.
In March 2017, the Baltimore police arrested 29-year-old Richard Jones in connection with the killing of Lawrence Jones. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as handgun and assault charges. Richard Jones was later convicted of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and possession of a regulated firearm after having been convicted of a disqualifying crime. He was sentenced to life in prison for the murder conviction, with an additional consecutive 20 years for the use of a firearm and a consecutive 12 years for the possession of a firearm conviction.
