On the night of December 26, 2017, a dispute outside the Waverly Tavern in Baltimore, Maryland, tragically cut short the life of 25-year-old Daniel Mullhausen, a white male. The altercation involved Mullhausen and a group of men. As he attempted to drive away from the scene in his SUV, he was fatally shot multiple times. The incident occurred at approximately 10:04 p.m. on the 3800 block of Old York Road.
When police arrived, they found Mullhausen in his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Bryan Hannah in early January 2018. He was charged with first-degree murder and several firearm-related offenses. During the subsequent trial, prosecutors presented video evidence that placed Hannah at the Waverly Tavern just before the shooting. The video reportedly showed Hannah in a physical altercation with Mullhausen, punching him before firing a weapon at him as he sat in the driver's seat of his SUV.
Initially, a jury convicted Hannah of voluntary manslaughter, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and possession of a regulated firearm. He received a sentence totaling over two decades in prison. However, in a significant turn of events, this conviction was later overturned, leading to the scheduling of a new trial.
Rather than proceeding with a second trial, Bryan Hannah opted to accept a plea agreement in June of 2023. Under the terms of this deal, he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. He was subsequently sentenced for this and the related firearm charge. The resolution of the case through a plea deal brought an end to the protracted legal proceedings surrounding the death of Daniel Mullhausen.
