In the early morning hours of August 17, 2019, the life of 18-year-old Damion Callery Jr. was tragically cut short in his Burtonsville, Maryland, home. A recent graduate of Paint Branch High School, the young man was excitedly preparing to embark on his next chapter, with plans to study business and marketing at Bowie State University. His aspirations were bright, filled with dreams of delving into the stock market and building a successful future.
On that fateful Saturday, at approximately 3:43 a.m., a call reporting a shooting on Angelton Terrace dispatched Montgomery County police to the Callery residence. There, they discovered Damion in his basement bedroom, deceased from gunshot wounds. Investigators believe he encountered one or more armed individuals in the backyard of his home, an area accessible from his room, leading to the fatal confrontation. His death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the years following the shooting, Damion's case has remained unsolved, with no suspects publicly identified or arrests made. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have continued to investigate, receiving multiple tips but none that have led to a breakthrough in the case. Police have stated they do not believe the shooting was a random act and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The Callery family has been left to grapple with the immense loss of a beloved son and the painful absence of justice. Damion's mother, Cherrell Callery, has made public pleas for any information that might help detectives solve her son's murder and bring their family a sense of closure. The community has mourned alongside them, remembering a promising young man whose life was senselessly taken just as it was beginning. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered by Crime Solvers of Montgomery County for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for Damion Callery Jr.'s death.
