On the evening of October 15, 2019, 20-year-old Briana Green was tragically killed in Fairmount Heights, Maryland. The young woman was discovered inside a vehicle on the 1000 block of 56th Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of her death, Green was on her way to her job, a detail that adds another layer of sorrow to the senseless act of violence that cut her life short.
The investigation into her death quickly pointed to a domestic-related incident. Authorities identified her 43-year-old boyfriend, Charles Kelly, Jr., of Suitland, as the primary suspect. Evidence gathered by detectives indicated a tumultuous relationship between Green and Kelly. Friends and family were aware of the volatile nature of their involvement, with some having expressed fear for her safety and even suggesting she seek a restraining order against him. It was revealed that Kelly had a history of controlling behavior, such as taking back a car he had allowed her to use whenever he became angry with her.
Within a few days of the shooting, Charles Kelly, Jr. was arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with Briana Green's death. The preliminary investigation suggested that on the night of the murder, a vehicle associated with Kelly, a burgundy Tahoe, was seen on surveillance video being followed by the gold Lexus Green was found in, heading toward the location where she was ultimately killed. Kelly was taken into custody and held without bond.
