In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, March 30, 2019, the life of 27-year-old Ashanti Carmon was tragically cut short on the streets of Fairmount Heights, Maryland. A Black transgender woman, Carmon was discovered on the 5700 block of Jost Street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The evening before, she had enjoyed a dinner and a movie with her fiancé, Phillip Williams, before going out with friends while he was at work.
