In the late hours of a Saturday night in Landover, Maryland, on April 18, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Eugene Deondre Jones of Oxon Hill was tragically cut short. What began as a dispute over an illegal drug transaction in a parking lot on Courtney Place escalated into a scene of violence that would leave two men dead and two others wounded.
Responding to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:30 p.m., Prince George's County patrol officers arrived to a grim discovery.
Four individuals had been struck by gunfire. Eugene Deondre Jones and another man, 24-year-old Pearris Clark of Rockville, were pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide did not take long to yield a suspect. On April 27, 2020, homicide detectives with the Prince George's County Police Department arrested 27-year-old Uhland Richardson of Upper Marlboro in connection with the fatal shootings. Richardson was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, among other related offenses. Following his arrest, he was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. Investigators concluded that the deadly encounter was not a random act of violence but rather stemmed from the drug-related dispute.
