In the spring of 2020, the life of a young woman from Laurel, Maryland, was cut short by a sudden act of violence. On the evening of April 27th, 24-year-old Briah Jackson was seated in a car in the 8200 block of Gorman Avenue with a male companion when they were both shot. The two managed to get to a local hospital for help. While the man's injuries were not life-threatening, Briah Jackson succumbed to her injuries the following day.
She was a female and her ethnicity was not disclosed in the reports.
The investigation into the shooting led Prince George's County Homicide Unit detectives to identify two suspects. Not long after the incident, authorities announced the arrests of 24-year-old Elijah Davis of Greenbelt and 19-year-old Marcus Hurd of Clinton. Both men were charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Briah Jackson. At the time of the announcements, the motive for the shooting was still under investigation.
Following the identification of the suspects, Elijah Davis was taken into custody and held by the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. Marcus Hurd, the second suspect, was apprehended in Los Angeles, California. He was held there as he awaited extradition back to Prince George's County to face the charges against him. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement brought both individuals into custody to answer for the death of Briah Jackson.
