In the summer of 2020, on the evening of July 8th, the life of 28-year-old Aaron Sampson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Baltimore, Maryland. He was found in an alley in the 100 block of N. Kossuth Street suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency services transported him to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting led police to Travion White.
According to details that emerged later, video footage from a nearby store captured White's arrival at the scene. He was seen getting out of his car and speaking with an unidentified male. Following this interaction, White returned to his vehicle, and after an exchange of words with Sampson, he pointed a gun out of his car window and fired, striking Sampson before driving away from the scene.
In a subsequent court hearing in June 2023, the emotional toll on Aaron Sampson's family was evident as his mother provided an impact statement. Travion White, 30, accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. For the murder charge, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison with all but 30 years suspended, to be followed by five years of supervised probation upon his release. For the firearm charge, he received a 20-year sentence with all but five years suspended; the initial five years of this sentence are to be served without the possibility of parole.
