In the early morning hours of January 4, 2021, the quiet of a Clarksburg, Maryland home was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Inside, 56-year-old Mary Ann Carver Blackburn, a female, was shot multiple times. A family member was awakened by the gunshots and called 911 after discovering that Mary Ann had been shot by her son, David Mark Blackburn.
When officers from the Montgomery County Police Department arrived at the residence on Frederick Road, they found Mary Ann suffering from
multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The nature of the incident was quickly determined to be a domestic-related homicide.
The suspect, Mary Ann's 24-year-old son, David Mark Blackburn, was taken into custody at the scene of the crime. He was subsequently transported to the Central Processing Unit. Following the investigation by detectives from the Major Crimes Division, David Blackburn was charged with the first-degree murder of his mother. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released by authorities.
