In the quiet residential area of Suitland, Maryland, a young life was abruptly cut short on the evening of Friday, January 29, 2021. Twenty-one-year-old Nakia Jamar Stewart Jr. was in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Shadyside Avenue when he was shot multiple times. The incident occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m., shattering the calm of the neighborhood.
Following the shooting, Stewart was privately transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit promptly launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives began working to piece together the events of that night and to identify a motive for the crime. Early in the investigation, police stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act.
