In the quiet community of Middle River, Maryland, a tragic event unfolded on the night of Thursday, February 4, 2021, ending the life of 18-year-old April Renee Lawson. Police were called to a home in the 3900 block of Bayville Road shortly before 10:30 p.m. for a report of an attempted suicide involving a firearm. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered a grim scene.
Inside, they found April Renee Lawson, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to her upper body.
Also in the home was 20-year-old Michael Ruben Morris Jr. Morris was found with what authorities determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, also to his upper body. Both Lawson and Morris were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Baltimore County Police Department's Homicide Detectives promptly began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the two deaths. Their findings led them to classify the incident as a murder-suicide, with Morris identified as the individual who fatally shot Lawson before taking his own life. The investigation by the police confirmed this sequence of events, bringing a sorrowful conclusion to the case.
