In the late hours of a Friday night in Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland, a dispute inside a local bowling alley tragically escalated, ending the life of 48-year-old Anthony E. Cooper Jr. The incident occurred on October 15, 2021, at approximately 11 p.m. at the Bowlero on York Road.
According to accounts from witnesses at the scene, Cooper was involved in an argument with other individuals at the establishment. The disagreement turned violent when at least one person opened fire, striking Cooper in the upper body. When Baltimore County police officers arrived, they found Cooper suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation that followed the shooting led authorities to identify two suspects in connection with Cooper's death. Craig Whitaker, 32, and Daniel Davis, also 32, were subsequently arrested and faced serious charges. Both men were charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting.
Following their arrests, both Whitaker and Davis were held at the Baltimore County Detention Center. A judge ordered that they be held without bond as they awaited further legal proceedings. The swift arrests brought a measure of progress in a case that shocked the local community.
