In a quiet home on Wendy Street in Clinton, Maryland, a devastating sequence of events unfolded on the evening of January 6, 2022. Inside, 8-year-old Asa Nathan Oxley, a charismatic and energetic third-grader at Melwood Elementary School, became a victim of a shocking act of violence that also claimed the life of his 44-year-old mother, Taledia Jeevon Oxley.
The young boy, known for his confidence and being well-liked by his peers and teachers, was fatally shot.
Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 5:50 p.m., Prince George's County police officers arrived at the residence to a harrowing scene. They discovered Asa and his mother suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, both were pronounced dead at the scene. A third family member, Asa's father, was also found with gunshot wounds but survived the attack.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect within their own family. Asa's 15-year-old brother was taken into custody in the neighborhood shortly after the incident. Authorities have charged the teenager as an adult with first and second-degree murder, as well as attempted first and second-degree murder. While the motive for the tragic shooting remains under investigation, the teen reportedly admitted to the acts. Due to his status as a minor, his name has not been publicly released. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life full of promise and his dedicated mother.
