In the summer of 2022, on the morning of July 29th, the life of 34-year-old Bartimaeus Morris was tragically cut short in a brazen daytime shooting in Southwest Baltimore. The incident, a quadruple shooting, also claimed the life of 17-year-old Evay Henriques and left two others wounded. The violent episode unfolded around 10:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of West North Avenue.
The events leading up to the shooting began when police were alerted to a stolen car.
Upon locating the vehicle with its doors open, officers saw people running from the area. It is believed that the suspects exited the stolen car and a verbal exchange occurred with one of the individuals before gunfire erupted. Morris and Henriques were fatally wounded in the assault. Two other victims, a 27-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman who was waiting at a bus stop, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, the suspects were believed to have carjacked another vehicle to escape, but they crashed it a short distance away before fleeing on foot. Baltimore police initially stated they were searching for three suspects in connection with the deadly shooting.
Despite the passage of time, the investigation into the murders of Bartimaeus Morris and Evay Henriques has yet to lead to any arrests. Two years after the incident, the case officially remains open, but progress appears to have stalled. The mother of Evay Henriques has voiced her frustration and pain, stating that she is no longer able to get in touch with the detective assigned to her son's case. She believes a culture of fear and witness intimidation in the community has hindered the investigation, preventing those with information from coming forward.
