In the early morning hours of October 30, 2022, a sense of normalcy was shattered at a gas station in Parkville, Maryland, when 24-year-old Malik Baker was tragically shot and killed. A graduate of Milford Mill High School, Malik was described by his loved ones as a lovable and happy person with a bright smile. He was a son, a brother, and a friend, who was building a life for himself.
On that fateful night, Malik had stopped at the Exxon on McClean Boulevard.
As he stood outside his vehicle, two masked individuals emerged from a waiting Honda Accord with temporary tags and approached him. A brief struggle ensued before one of the assailants fatally shot him. The suspects then fled the scene in the same vehicle, leaving behind a grieving family and a community in shock.
Baltimore County Police responded to the scene and launched a homicide investigation. Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the chilling moments of the attack and was released to the public in the hopes of identifying the suspects. Investigators initially suggested the motive may have been an attempted carjacking, a theory Malik's family questioned, believing it was more likely an attempted robbery. His family emphasized that Malik was not involved in any trouble and had no known enemies.
