Death by Force

John King, who served as the Chief of Police in Bamberg, South Carolina, tragically lost his life on February 4, 1903. He was 40 years old at the time of his death. Chief King was responding to a domestic disturbance call at a residence on Factory Hill. A woman had reported that she was assaulted by her husband. When Chief King arrived at the scene to investigate, the husband shot him through the door with a shotgun, resulting in his immediate death.
