The young father of four was standing outside his apartment on Brick Kiln Road, located off Dixie Highway, when the incident occurred. The tranquility of the night was shattered by the sound of gunfire, leaving a family devastated and a community searching for answers.
According to accounts from that time, Jackson was discovered
with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and placed on life support. Tragically, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead a short time later after being removed from life support. The sudden and violent nature of his death left his family grappling with immense grief and a desperate need for understanding. His mother, Sophia Jackson, and his aunt, Tara Gregory, would later make public pleas for anyone with information to come forward, expressing their deep desire for closure.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Louisville Metro Police began their investigation. Witnesses reported seeing two men, both described as being dressed in black, fleeing the scene. Homicide detectives at the time suggested that there may have been some sort of dispute happening in the area just prior to the shooting, but it was unclear if Jackson was directly involved in that altercation. The two individuals seen running from the area were identified as two Black males.
