Special Officer Samuel H. Boyer, aged 52, tragically lost his life on January 28, 1910, following an incident that occurred on January 24, 1910, in Charleston, South Carolina. Boyer, who served with the Southern Railway Police Department, was patrolling the Royster Yards south of Charleston around midnight when he encountered several men breaking into a boxcar.
