Deputy Sheriff Russell Richard Bell, aged 53, tragically lost his life on April 17, 1990, in Beaufort, South Carolina. Deputy Bell was a dedicated member of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, having served for six years. On the day of his death, he was transporting a mental patient to a hospital when the patient managed to seize Bell's service weapon and fatally shot him.
