Chief Deputy Charles Junior Smith, aged 37, tragically lost his life on August 24, 1992, in Allendale, South Carolina. Chief Deputy Smith was leading an investigation into a suspected narcotics operation at the Rainbow Motel. A week prior to his death, a search at the motel revealed drug paraphernalia and equipment used to monitor police activities. Despite these findings, the suspect involved in the narcotics operation was not apprehended at that time.
