Mark Hunter Coates, a 31-year-old trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, tragically lost his life on November 20, 1992, near Hardeeville, South Carolina. Coates was on duty with the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team, a special unit focused on drug enforcement, when he stopped a vehicle for weaving in traffic on Interstate 95 near the Georgia border.
