In the early morning hours of May 10, 2014, the life of 40-year-old Donnathian Grant was tragically cut short on Nassau Street, on the east side of Charleston, South Carolina. Grant, a Black male, was fatally shot in an incident that marked the second deadly shooting in the downtown area in just two days. The Charleston County Coroner's Office later confirmed that a gunshot wound was the cause of his death.
The investigation into Grant's murder led Charleston police to identify a
suspect, Brandon Horlback. He was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges, including murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Following his arrest, a judge denied bond for Horlback, signaling the gravity of the accusations against him as the case began to move through the legal system.
The sudden and violent death of Donnathian Grant left his family, including his children, mother, and fiancée, in deep mourning. His passing was formally announced in an obituary published in the Charleston Post & Courier, and funeral services were held on May 20, 2014, at the Agape Inner City Christian Assembly Inc., where friends and family gathered to pay their final respects to a man whose life was taken too soon.
