In the early morning hours of a Thursday in West Columbia, South Carolina, a dispute between two men took a fatal turn, leaving one man dead and the other facing a murder charge. The victim was Steven Lee Boone, a 41-year-old male. The events leading to his death on September 25, 2014, stemmed from a disagreement with his alleged accomplice, 36-year-old Anthony Wayne Jeffcoat.
The two men were reportedly collaborators in a series of recent home burglaries.
An argument erupted between them concerning the division of the stolen items. This confrontation escalated tragically outside a shed on Gulf Court where Jeffcoat had been residing. It was there that Jeffcoat is said to have used a stolen gun to shoot Boone. The single gunshot wound proved to be fatal.
Following the shooting, Jeffcoat fled the scene. However, it was not long before he contacted law enforcement and arranged to surrender to the authorities. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with the murder of Steven Lee Boone. Jeffcoat was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center as the investigation into the homicide and the preceding burglaries continued.
