Steward Wilson, a 34-year-old man from Hopkins, South Carolina, tragically lost his life in the early morning hours of January 3, 2015. He was at Tony's Lounge on Congaree Road when a violent altercation erupted inside the establishment. The dispute, which reportedly stemmed from a previous conflict on New Year's Day, did not directly involve Wilson.
He was, by all accounts, an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
The verbal argument escalated, leading to several gunshots being fired within the bar. One of the bullets struck Wilson in the upper body. He was rushed to a local hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The Richland County Sheriff's Department quickly launched an investigation into the fatal shooting, which was not the only incident of gun violence at the lounge that weekend. Another shooting, a drive-by, occurred the following evening, injuring another patron.
Within a day of Steward Wilson's death, authorities made arrests in connection with his murder. Two young men, 20-year-old DeMichael Razor and 19-year-old Calvin Myers, were taken into custody and charged with his murder. During questioning by investigators, both Razor and Myers confessed to their involvement in the shooting. They admitted to firing at their intended target, an acquaintance with whom they had the dispute, and tragically hitting Wilson instead. Following their confession, they were transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
