In March of 2015, a vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, ended in a grim discovery for the family of Steven Gray Turner. The 61-year-old male, along with his 52-year-old wife, Carrie Daley Turner, were found deceased in their room at the Landmark Resort on Ocean Boulevard. An investigation by the Myrtle Beach Police Department revealed that the couple had died from gunshot wounds in what was described as a domestic dispute.
The investigation quickly focused on the couple's son,
23-year-old Alexander Gray Turner, and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Chelsi Lelia Griffin. Evidence suggested the younger Turner and Griffin were at the hotel and had attempted to extend the stay in his parents' room, but were denied. They were later seen leaving the hotel in his parents' vehicle. Following the discovery of the bodies, credit cards belonging to Steven and Carrie Turner were used.
Within days, law enforcement located and arrested four individuals in connection with the double homicide. Alexander Gray Turner and Chelsi Lelia Griffin were both charged with two counts of murder. Additionally, two other individuals, 20-year-old Grant Anthony Dollens and 18-year-old Roxanna Lisa Cumpan, were arrested and charged with accessory after the fact for assisting the couple after the killings.
Alexander Gray Turner later pleaded guilty to two counts of murder. He was sentenced to 47 years in prison. His girlfriend, Chelsi Lelia Griffin, was also indicted on charges related to the incident. The tragic event cut short the lives of Steven Gray Turner and his wife, leaving friends and family to mourn their sudden and violent loss.
