On what should have been a joyous celebration of his eighteenth birthday, Kendall Lesher Williams, a White/Caucasian male, met a tragic end in a hunting accident on Sunday, October 25, 2015, in Prosperity, South Carolina. A senior at Mid-Carolina High School, Kendall was in the woods off Highway 391 when the incident occurred. Around nightfall, he sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The community was deeply affected by the sudden loss of the young man.
Kendall was an active student and a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. His death prompted an investigation by the Newberry County Coroner's Office, the Newberry County Sheriff's Office, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. The authorities ultimately ruled the shooting to be an accident.
Following the investigation, it was determined that there was no evidence of foul play in Kendall's death. Consequently, no arrests were made, and no suspects were named in connection with the incident. The community mourned the loss of a young life cut short, with his funeral held at the church he attended, Macedonia Lutheran Church, where he was also laid to rest.
