In the fall of 2016, the life of Lewis Kevin Ramsey, a 43-year-old male from Walterboro, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Friday, October 28, 2016, Ramsey was fatally shot in his residence. He was not the only victim of the violence that unfolded that night; Julie Michelle Poston, age 41, was also killed in the incident. The double homicide rocked the community, leaving friends and family to mourn the sudden and violent loss of their loved ones.
Ramsey, born on November 25, 1972, was known for his love of cooking and had even created his own brand of barbeque sauce that was sold in local stores.
The investigation into the murders of Ramsey and Poston continued for over a year. A break in the case came in February 2018 when authorities charged Kenneth Mar'keith Chisolm with two counts of murder in their deaths. At the time of these new charges, Chisolm was already in custody, having been arrested the previous May for the murders of another couple and their 13-year-old son. In addition to the murder charges for the 2016 incident, Chisolm also faced charges of first-degree burglary and armed robbery.
According to arrest warrants, the motive for the crime was robbery. Chisolm allegedly entered the home that Ramsey and Poston shared and shot them before stealing cash and marijuana. Investigators were able to link Chisolm to the crime through two witnesses who provided information that only the perpetrator would know. Further evidence came from video footage that captured Chisolm's vehicle leaving the residence just minutes after the killings occurred. The arrest of a suspect brought some measure of progress in a case that had remained unsolved for more than a year, beginning the long process of seeking justice for Lewis Kevin Ramsey and Julie Michelle Poston.
