In a relationship described by relatives as both tumultuous and sometimes violent, 47-year-old Eulia Moon was shot and killed by her boyfriend, Jamie Jermaine Robinson, following a late-night argument on October 29, 2016. The couple, who had been together for about two years, were inside Robinson's parked truck at his mother's home on Little Capers Road on Lady's Island, where they also resided in a converted garage.
The argument began after Moon found Robinson drinking at an
acquaintance's house, upset with the company he was keeping. The confrontation escalated in his Chevrolet Avalanche, parked in the driveway. Shortly after midnight, Robinson's mother was awakened by her dog barking and discovered her son yelling and behaving erratically. He confessed to her that he had just shot Moon and urged her to call 911. While his mother attended to the gravely injured Moon, Robinson fled the scene.
As he ran through the woods toward a cousin's house, Robinson discarded the. 25-caliber handgun used in the shooting, along with his shirt and shoes. In his initial contact with law enforcement, he fabricated a story about a masked assailant who had robbed him and shot his girlfriend. However, his account contradicted the evidence found at the crime scene, and he later changed his story, claiming the gun discharged accidentally as Moon tried to take it from him while he was holding it to his own head.
Emergency services transported Eulia Moon to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, and she was then airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she ultimately died from a gunshot wound to her head. Following an investigation and an interview where his statements were inconsistent with evidence and witness accounts, Jamie Robinson was arrested. Initially charged with attempted murder, the charge was upgraded to murder upon Moon's death.
A Beaufort County jury convicted Jamie Jermaine Robinson of voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The conviction came after three days of testimony from fourteen prosecution witnesses. The assistant solicitor described Robinson as a 'violent, abusive man' and a liar whose claims the jury did not believe.
