In the quiet town of Andrews, South Carolina, a young life full of promise was tragically cut short. Anna Grace Cook, an 11-year-old girl, passed away on December 26, 2016, in what was determined to be a hunting accident in Georgetown County. Born on November 15, 2005, she was a fifth-grader at Trinity Christian Academy and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Andrews.
Friends and family remember her as a vibrant and adventurous child who had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities like hunting, fishing, and playing softball. She also had a creative side, expressed through playing the piano.
The incident occurred at the Mount Pleasant Plantation Hunting Club. The Georgetown County Deputy Coroner reported that Anna Grace died from massive head trauma caused by a gunshot wound. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources led the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal event.
Initial reports were varied, with some suggesting an ATV might have been involved, a detail later clarified by the SCDNR, which stated that while an ATV was present, it was not in motion at the time of the incident. The investigation concluded that her death was a tragic accident, and as a result, no foul play was suspected. Consequently, there were no arrests made, and no suspects were named in connection with her death. The community of Andrews mourned the profound loss of a bright and beloved young member, with funeral services held at the First Baptist Church of Andrews, followed by her burial at the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
