In the quiet moments before heading to work, a violent encounter shattered the night and ended the life of a young man from Aiken, South Carolina. Twenty-two-year-old Devonte Green was fatally shot on a Tuesday evening while sitting in a vehicle with three other men. The group was getting ready to leave a residence on Dry Branch Road when the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the air.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Green, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was
rushed to Augusta University Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. Another individual in the vehicle was also injured in the shooting and was reported to be in critical condition.
In the immediate aftermath, Aiken County authorities faced challenges in their investigation as they struggled to find witnesses. The two other men who were in the car at the time of the shooting told investigators they were unable to identify the person or persons who fired the shots.
