In the summer of 2017, a promising young man's life was cut tragically short in Columbia, South Carolina. Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, a 26-year-old male, was fatally wounded on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Siddiqui, who was in his third year at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the Arbors at Windsor Lake Apartments on Windsor Lake Boulevard.
Richland County deputies who responded to the scene found Siddiqui on the floor, bleeding from his chest. A relative of Siddiqui's at the apartment informed the deputies that he had accidentally shot him while showing him the firearm. Siddiqui was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation into the shooting, the Richland County Coroner's Office ruled Muhammad Siddiqui's death an accident. Investigators from the Richland County Sheriff's Department found no evidence of foul play in the events that led to the fatal shooting. Consequently, the department announced that no charges would be filed against the relative who fired the weapon. The case was closed without any arrests or suspects being named in what was determined to be a tragic accident.
