Do you know who murdered Dernell Hunt? In the Park DuValle neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a single act of violence brought a young man's life to an untimely end. On the evening of May 23, 2017, at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Hemlock Street, 24-year-old Dernell Hunt, a Black male, was discovered inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, Hunt succumbed to his injury the following afternoon, May 24, 2017.
The Louisville Metro Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Hunt's death. At the scene of the shooting, investigators recovered shell casings from two different firearms, leading them to believe that at least two individuals were involved in the incident. This evidence, however, did not immediately lead to the identification of any suspects. Detectives were left to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting, exploring whether the shots were fired from inside or outside the vehicle and whether Hunt was alone at the time.
