A tragic and senseless act of violence cut short the life of 22-year-old Kymir Jaquan Dolford in Florence, South Carolina. The young Black man, born on September 23, 1995, was fatally shot on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. Dolford, who had attended South Florence High School, was a beloved son, brother, and friend, remembered by his loved ones as being full of life and always smiling.
The events leading to Dolford's untimely death reportedly began with a trivial dispute.
An altercation erupted after Dolford allegedly urinated on the shoes of 20-year-old Willie Darnell Burrell. Following this initial confrontation, Dolford returned to his home on Philadelphia Place in West Florence. About two hours later, the conflict escalated dramatically when Burrell arrived at Dolford's residence and fired eight shots into the home. Dolford was struck by two bullets, one in the back and another in the hand. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to officially determine the cause of death.
In the wake of the shooting, authorities quickly identified Willie Darnell Burrell as the primary suspect. He was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling.
