In the early morning hours of September 30, 2018, the life of 17-year-old Samquan Hakeem Frazier of Varnville, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. Frazier, an African American male affectionately known as 'Chucko' by his loved ones, was discovered on the side of Pineland Road near Highway 3 in Jasper County, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. In his final moments, Frazier was able to provide a crucial piece of information to the responding officers, identifying his attacker as a man named 'Hustle Man.' This dying declaration, captured on an officer's body camera, would prove instrumental in the pursuit of justice.
The investigation into Frazier's death quickly identified 'Hustle Man' as 27-year-old Javeris Tremane Williams. It was revealed that on the night of the murder, Frazier had won a significant amount of money in a dice game before heading to a nightclub. Later that evening, he was a passenger in a car with Williams and another individual. The third person in the vehicle testified that he was awakened by a gunshot and saw Frazier and Williams outside the car. After hearing a second shot, Williams got back into the car and drove away, leaving Frazier on the roadside. The motive for the shooting was determined to be robbery.
Following an intense manhunt, Javeris Tremane Williams was apprehended by U.S. Marshals at a motel in Columbia, South Carolina. He was subsequently charged with murder, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. In August 2024, a Jasper County jury found Williams guilty on all charges. The evidence presented at trial, including Frazier's profound final words, led to his conviction. Javeris Tremane Williams was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Samquan Frazier.
