Curtis Matthew Frazier, a 31-year-old Black man, was killed by gunfire in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, in the early hours of November 14, 2018, after police were called to a shooting on Trivers Drive just before 1:00 a.m. Officers arriving in the dark found a scene that quickly hardened into tragedy: Frazier and another Moncks Corner resident, Allontay Akeem Houston, had suffered gunshot wounds so severe that neither survived.
As investigators secured the area, police said a “domestic-related” situation was tied to what happened there, and they emphasized there was no continuing threat to the public. In the immediate aftermath, one person was detained and questioned while detectives tried to untangle why the confrontation erupted and how it escalated into a double killing.

Subsequent reporting described the shooter as Roddrik Gadsden, saying the incident began with a confrontation at a vehicle and that police leadership concluded the shooting was self-defense under South Carolina’s “stand your ground” concept. In that later account, Gadsden was described as having been jailed on a misdemeanor weapons allegation—unlawfully carrying a pistol—while police indicated they did not expect additional charges tied to the two deaths.
