In the pre-dawn hours of November 28, 2018, the quiet of a Warrenville, South Carolina neighborhood was shattered by gunfire that would end the life of 39-year-old Travis Young, a Black male. The violent encounter unfolded around 5:00 a.m. in front of Young's residence on Keith Drive. First responders discovered Young with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed him to Augusta University Medical Center.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries later that same day.
The investigation into Young's death, led by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, gradually uncovered the individuals allegedly responsible for the fatal shooting. Months of police work pointed toward 20-year-old Denzel Deshawn Jackson of New Ellenton, SC, as the primary suspect. Investigators also implicated a second individual, 43-year-old Kristie Shantia Green.
Authorities took Kristie Shantia Green into custody on February 6, 2019, charging her with accessory after the fact to murder; she was later released on bond in March 2019. Denzel Deshawn Jackson was arrested on May 13, 2019, and faced a series of grave charges, including murder, five counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Jackson was already being held at the Aiken County Detention Center in connection with the separate death investigation of a man who had been reported missing earlier that month.
