In the quiet woods of Marion County, South Carolina, a day of hunting turned into a tragedy on December 22, 2018, ending the life of 55-year-old Jerry Lorenzo Scott. A Black/African American male from the nearby community of Gresham, Scott was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting. On that fateful Saturday, while engaged in this beloved pastime, he sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Scott was rushed to a nearby hospital
in an attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved too severe, and he succumbed to the gunshot wound. The community was left in shock and mourning at the sudden and tragic loss of a man described as a devoted husband and a loving father.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, along with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
