In the winter of 2019, the life of 41-year-old Bartina Robinson was tragically cut short. On the evening of January 23rd, Robinson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on East Bobo Newsom Highway near Hartsville, South Carolina, when she sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Larry Roger Allen Carroway, 39, of Wedgefield, transported her to a local hospital. However, he left her there and fled the scene.
Hospital staff notified the Darlington County Sheriff's Office of a gunshot victim around 9:50 p.m.
Following an investigation based on witness statements and other evidence, authorities quickly identified Carroway as the suspect. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for his arrest on charges of voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. In a turn of events, Carroway voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement.
Bartina Robinson, known affectionately as 'Pookie' to her loved ones, was remembered as a vibrant and outgoing person who was often the life of the party. A graduate of Lamar High School, she was a mother to four children and a grandmother. Her death on January 24, 2019, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, left her family and friends to mourn a life taken too soon.
