In a tragic turn of events on a late Saturday night in Lobeco, South Carolina, Shalonda Nicole Johnson, a 37-year-old woman, lost her life. On June 22, 2019, Johnson was fatally shot at a residence on Polite Family Lane. The incident, which shattered the quiet of the evening, was reported to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Authorities were informed that the shooting followed a verbal dispute.
The investigation swiftly pointed to a suspect, and on the following day, 41-year-old Andre Demond Mitchell of Beaufort was taken into custody. The preliminary investigation suggested that Mitchell had shot Johnson after an argument. An autopsy for Johnson was scheduled to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to formally determine the cause of death.
Following the incident, Mitchell was detained at the Beaufort County Detention Center. He faced charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Friends and family remembered Shalonda Johnson as a kind and loving person who worked in childcare. Her obituary stated she was a wife to Chauncy Johnson and a mother to two children, Chauncy Johnson, Jr. and Donielle Nicole Johnson.
