Rico Jemel Johnson, a 27-year-old male from Florence, South Carolina, was fatally shot on the night of Saturday, July 6, 2019. The incident occurred at his residence in Florence. Earlier that evening, Johnson had been involved in an altercation with another man.
Following the initial dispute, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Larry Ja Juan Scipio, Jr. of Florence, went to Johnson's home around 10:30 p.m.
Scipio knocked on the door, and when Johnson opened it, Scipio entered and shot him multiple times. After the shooting, Scipio fled the scene. Law enforcement responded to a call regarding shots fired and found Johnson with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The day after the shooting, authorities arrested Larry Ja Juan Scipio, Jr. He was taken into custody and charged with murder for his alleged involvement in Johnson's death. Born on September 27, 1991, Rico Jemel Johnson was a 2012 graduate of Wilson High School and worked as a certified welder. He was married and had one son.
